Attentional Pacing: The Strategic Modulation of Attention over Time

Abstract

The allocation of attention may be regulated based on expectations about the task length. We manipulated expectations of task length (10-min vs. 45-min) and measured mind wandering. Results indicate that during the first 10-min, people mind wander less when expecting to perform a short versus long task.
