Abstract

Attachment dimensions, cognitive processes, and psychological intimate partner violence were assessed in 103 couples annually over the first seven years of marriage. Attachment anxiety and avoidance predicted psychological violence perpetration for husbands and wives. For husbands, self-esteem mediated this association whereas attributions of aggressive intent mediated for wives.
