Abstract

We examine the potential shortcomings of climate change communications that focus on extremely large numbers. In four studies (N=832), Participants received environmental footprint numeric information in either aggregate, nation-level data, or an individual-level, scaled down format. Nation level data was repeatedly associated with weakened moral concerns and less behavioural intentions.
