An Empirical Article Outperforms a Study Tips Presentation for Teaching Students to “Study Smarter, Not Harder”

Abstract

We compared the effectiveness of attending a “Study Smarter, Not Harder” presentation to reading an empirical article that offered similar study tips. Students’ study habits improved significantly following both, but article readers appeared to study smarter whereas presentation attendees appeared to study harder after attending the study tips session.
