Character Strengths and Their Functions

Abstract
It was suggested that character strengths may be grouped by their function. We examined whether laypeople (N = 149; 87% women) agree with the suggested functions. All strengths except humor seem to fulfill the hypothesized function and for 18 character strengths the hypothesized function yielded highest scores.
