Electrical Stimulation in Lateral Orbitofrontal Cortex Evokes Retrieval of Complex Memories

In rare cases, electrical stimulation through intracranial electrodes, used to map brain areas for clinical purposes, evokes recall of complex memories. Here we report stimulation induced autobiographical episodic memory retrieval in two patients upon stimulation of the lateral orbitofrontal cortex. We discuss the findings in the context of prior reports.
