The present study examined the item response theory parameterization and differential item functioning for the Chinese and English versions of the Essential Resilience Scale (ERS). Although the Chinese version demonstrated strong psychometric properties, results suggest that its English adaptation may not be a suitable measure for conceptualizing resiliency.
