Abstract

Narrative transportation, or immersion into a story, may motivate healthy behavior portrayed in narratives. We examined transportation into narratives that varied outcomes of a diagnostic skin examination. Although transportation was similar across narratives, it was associated with preventive intentions for only some narratives (e.g., waiting for results, receiving good news).
