Warnings and Discrepancy Detection As Tactics for Increasing Resistance to Varying Amounts of Misinformation

Abstract

We examined the effects of warnings about misinformation, discrepancy detection timing, and misinformation quantity on memory accuracy. Concurrent discrepancy detection and misinformation quantity were related to accuracy, such that participants who detected discrepancies concurrently versus retrospectively, and those exposed to lower amounts of misinformation, had heightened misinformation resistance.
