Neural Bases of Accent Perception

Abstract

The present FMRI experiment identifies brain areas involved in the perception of accented sentences. Participants were scanned while they listened to sentences spoken in three different accents: American-English (baseline), British-English, and Russian. Results suggest that accent perception recruits regions associated with speech production.
