Childhood Maltreatment and Emotional Intelligence Predict Educational Attainment

Abstract

A sample of 515 adults completed a survey that studied predictors of educational attainment. The best predictors were childhood sexual abuse and perception of emotions, which were associated with lower educational achievement. Additionally, an increased ability to manage others’ emotions predicted greater educational achievement.
