Abstract

College students (N=40) completed assessments of general and news media literacy knowledge and fact-checking skills. Students scored highly on knowledge assessments, but knowledge and skills were unrelated. Most (62.5%) reported regularly using recommended fact-checking strategies. Yet, when verifying credibility of an online article, only 10% used those strategies.
