Abstract

In a three-wave study of 140 North American leaders, we examine the effects of subordinate power and envy on leader member exchange, Our results suggest that leaders who perceive their subordinate has expert, referent, or global power report high-quality exchanges, and that downward comparison envy mediates the power-LMX relationship.
