Abstract

Organizations provide a source of identity for employees. Using an expanded model of organizational identification, we apply attachment theory to understand why employees may identify (or not) with their organization. Our results demonstrate that attachment anxiety encourages self-definition consistent with the organization, while avoidance promotes emotional distance from the organization.
