Abstract

216 participants recalled three slides (pre-critical, critical, and post-critical) from an emotional or neutral 35-slide presentation. Participants showed, when prompted to recall items from the critical slide, enhanced error tendency for items from a pre-critical slide, suggesting that emotional arousal during encoding enhances memory for information preceding the emotional stimulus.
