Abstract

People can make accurate judgements about target persons’ states and traits from short excerpts—thin slices—of their behaviour or appearance (Ambady & Rosenthal, 1992). We demonstrate that 20 second audiovisual slices extracted from analog psychotherapy sessions can be used to reliably code for whole-session working alliance.
