Fear of Negative Evaluation Moderates the Relationship between Early Childhood Abuse and Generalized Anxiety in Adulthood

Abstract

Individuals who experienced childhood abuse and who were also higher in fear of being negatively evaluated by others were more likely to score above the clinical cutoff for anxiety, while those lower in fear of negative self-evaluation were buffered against anxiety symptoms even in the face of childhood abuse.
