Abstract

This study examined humor-based coping as a tool to (i) interrupt rumination and (ii) facilitate creative problem solving when faced with a distressing situation. Experimentally instructed humor reappraisal successfully reduced rumination about a personal problem relative to control, though no effect on problem solving was observed. Future directions are discussed.
