Abstract

We evaluate whether gay men report more concealment motivation if they live in states with higher structural stigma. Gay men living in states with higher structural stigma reported a greater motivation to conceal their sexual orientation. This association was mediated by a novel psychological mechanism – perceived structural stigma.
