Abstract

Subjects read a memory description of someone’s negative experience. The description suggested the experience ultimately had either a helpful or harmful outcome for the rememberer. Then, subjects evaluated the experience. We found subjects rated the experience as more negative when it had a harmful outcome, compared to a helpful outcome.
