Abstract

We examined the impact of pregnancy status on perception of female defendants. Undergraduates (300) responded to 6 scenarios with women committing crimes in which pregnancy status was alternated. Participants determined guilt and sentence severity. By understanding gender differences in perception of pregnant defendants, the jury process can be better informed.
