Optimism and Experience in Romantic Relationships: Are Optimists Naïve, or Nurtured?

Relationship-specific optimism and experience in romantic relationships were examined in a campus sample (N=384). Age was negatively correlated with optimism, but the number and quality of past romantic relationships was positively associated with optimism, even controlling for age. Optimists may not have less, but better, experiences in romantic relationships.
