Abstract

Adults’ (n = 285) emotionally-tinged parasocial relationships with their smartphones were examined. A Principle Component Analysis with a varimax rotation conducted on responses to online questions yielded two dimensions: Smartphone Personification and Addiction. Results suggest that people treat smartphones as companions, but these “companions” interfere with living in the moment.
