Abstract
We explored participants’ ability to comprehend very large numbers. Participants were asked to estimate how many trash cans would be required to contain various quantities of marbles, ranging from 20,000 to 4 billion. Participants differentiated between orders of magnitude but did not differentiate between values within those orders of magnitude.
