Abstract

This study examined the early development of intuitive prosociality by measuring helping behavior (latency and frequency) in a large longitudinal sample (N = 95) of infants. The results show that early in human ontogeny, prosocial behavior begins to be governed by intuitive processes that operate independently of cognitive control.
