Abstract

This study examined whether children similarly evaluate generic claims and inductive inferences. 96-preschoolers were shown puppets interacting with an unfamiliar toy and assessed the puppets’ inferences and claims about the toy’s function. Children more often selected the verifying puppet across both the rational inference (p=.001) and generic claims (p<.001) trials.
