Abstract

A novel task was calibrated to individual working memory capacity (WMC) and neutralized task performance variability to test relationships between temporal signatures of prefrontal activation and individual WMC differences. At individuals’ subcapacity and supracapacity, higher and lower WMC individuals showed opposite prefrontal signatures. Results support temporal neurocognitive mechanisms underlying WMC
