Abstract

Participants were primed with a counterfactual or non-counterfactual prime scenario before being exposed to fake news information printed on photographs. Participants rated the accuracy of each image. The counterfactual prime led to lower mean ratings of accuracy for Republicans, but to higher mean ratings of accuracy for Democrats and Independents.
