Abstract

Counter to inference-based models of metacognition, but consistent with some psychophysical models, participants completing a face recognition task gave lower confidence ratings in trials where additional non-diagnostic information was present at test (cf. an exact match). Understanding the mechanisms underpinning confidence is important given its influence in eyewitness settings.
