Charisma in Context: The Effect of Audience Response

Abstract

The effect of audience appraisal on perception of speakers' charisma was tested. We manipulated the intensity of audience applause and then measured evaluations of speakers' charisma. The results indicate that speakers were rated as more charismatic and as being more electable when intensity of applause was higher.
