Solicited and Unsolicited Therapist Advice in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: How Attachment Plays a Role

Abstract

We examined how attachment style was related to whether advice was given in both solicited and unsolicited advice events during psychodynamic therapy for adult clients. Results indicated that attachment styles of both the client and therapist may affect the therapist’s tendency to give both solicited and unsolicited advice.
