Substance addictions were seen as involving less self-efficacy, more of an escape, and addicts as more helpless than behavioral addictions.  Psychological treatments and support groups were rated as more effective for behavioral, while agonist replacement therapy and combined medical/behavioral treatment were rated as more effective for drug addictions.
