The Effect of Self-Selected Music on Affect and Anxiety

Abstract

This study investigates if self-selected relaxing or energizing music brings about positive affect and reduces negative affect and anxiety. Participants completed self-reports on state anxiety and affect before and after listening to a song of their choice, depending on their group. Significant mood changes were found between groups and time.
