Attractiveness Mediates the Role of Gender Bias in Personnel Selection

Abstract

Participants provided ratings for 24 portrait photographs of various human faces. Judgments included perceived attractiveness and likelihood of hiring for a management position. A moderated mediation analysis indicated an indirect effect between face gender typicality and likelihood of hire for female, but not male, faces through perceptions of attractiveness.
