Abstract

We explored whether providing positive event support increases motivation. In Study 1, participants recounting positive OR negative support provision reported less confidence in personal goals (vs. control condition). In Study 2, the type of event was less important than whether providers utilized emotion regulation (which predicted reduced persistence).
