Abstract

This study examines language trends used in multiparty negotiations that influence perceptions of trustworthiness. We found that tentative language increased perceived trustworthiness while sad language decreased this. This study advances research around linguistic analysis not only in negotiation settings but as an antecedent of trust-building more generally.
