Abstract

196 men and women reviewed 12 Facebook screenshots of news items and were asked to identify which ones were real and which were “fake news” (determined by snopes.com fact checkers.) Susceptibility to “fake news” was predicted by more conservative ideology, lower critical thinking scores, and more time spent on Facebook.
