Abstract

Do the limited capacities of attention and self-control draw on the same resource? A cueing task manipulated voluntary or involuntary attention. Self-control was measured as candy consumption or Stroop performance. The hypothesis that using effortful attention would lead to greater self-control depletion was not supported, suggesting the two are unrelated.
