Abstract

This study extended previous U.S. developmental research to Colombia. Colombian adolescents who reported experiencing more frequent ethnic-racial-based discrimination tended to have lower self-esteem and elevated depressive symptoms, whereas adolescents who explored, better understood, and felt more positively about their ethnic-racial identity tended to have higher self-esteem and lower depressive symptoms.
