Emotion Regulation Via Drawing and Writing: The Positive Effects of Distraction

Abstract

This study compared the mood improvement benefits of writing and drawing. Mood improved in both the writing and drawing conditions when the activity was used to distract rather than express negative feelings. This is consistent with previous research showing that engaging in distracting activities may be key in improving mood.
