Abstract

This study examines the impact of situational characteristics of police contact on adolescents’ legal cynicism in neighborhoods characterized by different levels of collective efficacy and danger. Divergent trends in legal cynicism emerge in dangerous, low collective efficacy communities compared with safer, high collective efficacy communities. Implications are discussed.
