Cultivating Empathy in High School Students through the Story Exchange

Abstract
We describe whether a feasible, low-time, and low-cost intervention--the Story Exchange-- improves high school students’ feelings of empathy and classroom connectedness. Results demonstrate that gains in empathy differed both by the specific constructs being measured (empathic concern, personal distress, perspective-taking, and fantasy) as well as students’ starting empathy level.
