Explicit Instruction of Cognate Rules Facilitates Cross-Linguistic Transfer of English-Spanish Cognate Vocabulary

Abstract

This paper examines Latino bilingual students’ ability to transfer knowledge of cognate rules from Spanish to English and vice versa. Results showed the experimental group outperformed the control group in phase 2. There was no difference between the experimental and control group during phase 3.
