Leveraging Physical Experiences to Live a Better Life: Demonstrations and Mechanisms in Intrapersonal Goal Pursuit and Interpersonal Emotion Detection
Physical experiences and cues shape motivational and emotional processes: Blocked facial mimicry impairs detection of happy faces. Cleaning behavior enhances goal flexibility and self-restoration. Framing academic and health goal pursuit as a physical journey improves attainment through motivated engagement and efficacy. But framing cancer treatment as fighting enemies can backfire.
