Beyond Loss Aversion: Redefining the Asymmetry Between Gains and Losses

Friday, May 25, 2018 · San Francisco, CA

Oral · General

How people process positive and negative outcomes —and potentially differentially so—has overwhelmingly relied on the notion that losses receive more subjective weight than gain (i.e., loss aversion). We challenge this notion, suggesting that loss aversion is bounded and contextualized, and also arguing for other more prominent gain/loss asymmetries.
