The Self-Conscious Emotions: Theory, Data, and Open Questions

Sunday, May 27, 2018 · San Francisco, CA

Oral · Personality/Emotion

In four talks, we identify unanswered questions about guilt and shame, demonstrate that common-knowledge intensifies shame, show that others’ reactions to one’s “power” pose depend on whether they infer it to stem from authentic pride or hubristic pride, and show that shame closely tracks the evaluative psychology of audiences.
