Ensemble Building in Educational Contexts: What Can We Learn from Theater Instruction?

Abstract

Trust is required for group learning. Theater classes provide a unique context for understanding the development of trust among students through focusing on “ensemble-building”. Analysis of adolescent theater classes reveal teachers spend a significant portion of time on activities integrating dependence and reliance which can be applied to non-arts classrooms.
