Abstract

This research examined how people’s ideal friend preferences and interaction context influence the friendship formation process. Our results demonstrate that people’s ideal friend preferences influence their friendship interest when learning about a potential friend in the abstract, but not after a live, in-person or online interaction with the potential friend.
