Abstract

This study examined veiling among young females from the Arabian Gulf following the sweeping changes associated with the oil boom. It explored whether changes have altered veiling behaviors. Results revealed that females reinvented the garb as a compromise between religious mandates and modernity, conformity and differentiation, and piety and fashion.
