Abstract

Prophylactic bilateral mastectomy (PBM) can decrease hereditary breast cancer risk by 90%. Women with a more recent PBM had higher relationship satisfaction than those who had the PBM longer ago. This effect was mediated by dyadic coping, which supports the idea of thriving through relationships.
